1. What frequency ranges do RFID modules support?
Our modules support a variety of frequency ranges depending on the model – typically LF (125 kHz), HF (13.56 MHz), and UHF (860-960 MHz).
2. What wireless protocols are available?
The Pepper C1 family support wireless connectivity options such as Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and BR/EDR + LE (Classic and Low Energy). There is an option to easily integrate another wireless technology like LoRaWAN, GSM or Zigbee.
3. What reader has the lowest power consumption?
If your project requires very low power consumption, choose one of the modules: B1, C1, or C2. The RFID B1 module has the lowest power consumption – down to 20nA in deep sleep mode.
4. Are the readers compatible with NFC tags?
Yes, our 13.56 MHz RFID readers support NFC communication standards such as ISO15693 and ISO14443A
5. How is the firmware updated?
Firmware can usually be updated via USB, serial, or over-the-air (OTA) depending on the model.
6. Can the readers be integrated with IoT systems?
Yes, many models feature serial, USB, or wireless (Wi Fi and BR/EDR+LE) options suitable for IoT integration.
7. Where can I find product datasheets or user manual?
Datasheets, manuals, and free libraries are available on each product page under the “Downloads” section.

Embedded NFC Reader Modules for System Integrators

Integrating a reliable nfc reader into an industrial system requires hardware that minimizes complexity while delivering maximum performance. These embedded devices serve as high-value components that protect your project's bottom line. By implementing specialized industrial RFID tags rather than consumer-grade components, system integrators bypass signal loss and hardware redesigns.

Utilizing an advanced nfc reader device directly limits upfront engineering risks. Eccel’s technical support reduces R&D costs and accelerates the path to profitability, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to achieve a faster return on investment from prototype to full-scale production.

Selecting the Right NFC Reader Module for Host Communication

Identifying the correct interface and operating parameters ensures seamless integration with your host system. Evaluating the technical specifications of each nfc reader module prevents communication bottlenecks and protects data integrity in complex manufacturing environments.

Industrial Communication: RS485 and I2C

The RS485 protocol provides robust, long-distance data transmission, supporting cable runs up to 1200 meters. It utilizes differential signaling to provide high immunity to electromagnetic noise—a critical requirement near heavy machinery. Configured in a multi-drop architecture, RS485 allows multiple nfc readers to connect to a single host controller effectively.

For short-range, on-board applications, the I2C protocol connects the nfc reader chip directly to a host microcontroller. This two-wire interface (SDA/SCL) minimizes the required pins and power consumption, making it ideal for compact embedded systems where efficiency is paramount.

Frequency Specifications and Data Security

Frequencies dictate range, speed, and environmental resilience. While LF (125–134 kHz) provides high resilience against metal and liquids, HF (13.56 MHz) is the standard for nfc chip reader applications, supporting specialized NFC cards and offering higher data rates and the ability to process multiple tags simultaneously.

To secure data transmission, we support AES-128 encryption. This utilizes a 128-bit symmetric key to ensure robust protection against unauthorized access. By enabling mutual authentication during every nfc reader tag interaction, our hardware prevents device cloning and ensures secure data exchange in sensitive environments.

Custom Engineering and Antenna Tuning

Standard products frequently fail when deployed near metallic surfaces or in areas with high interference. To resolve this, our custom engineering focuses on the physical properties of the nfc tag reader. Modifying the device physics allows engineers to bypass environmental obstacles without altering the internal chip architecture, protecting your R&D timeline.

  • Antenna Tuning: Compensating for signal detuning caused by nearby metallic structures.
  • Manufacturing Tolerances: Applying strict controls to ensure consistent performance across all nfc reader chip units.
  • Rugged Packaging: Specialized housings (PPS, Epoxy) that protect against harsh industrial elements without obstructing RF signals.
  • Form Factor Adaptation: Altering the physical dimensions to fit restricted spatial constraints in OEM designs.
  • Resonant Frequency Calibration: Maximizing energy transfer to ensure reliable communication with passive tags.

Reducing Risk with Full Modular Approval

Navigating RF emissions testing is a significant hurdle for developers. Utilizing an nfc reader module that possesses Full Modular Approval (FCC, CE, ISED, UKCA) provides immediate regulatory advantages. By integrating pre-certified hardware, you can frequently bypass the costly intentional radiator testing for your final product, significantly shortening your time-to-market.

From Prototype to Production: The NFC Reader Market

A reliable supply chain is critical for high-volume deployment. Eccel provides a structured production pathway to de-risk the manufacturing cycle within the nfc reader chip market:

  1. Hardware Prototyping: Collaboration on physical design and antenna tuning for specific host environments.
  2. Integration Testing: Validation of communication protocols and industrial standards.
  3. Automated Manufacturing: Production scale-up in our fully automated facility in Poland, ensuring consistent quality and component supply.
  4. Lifecycle Support: Continuous engineering assistance to protect against component obsolescence.
