Which NFC tag should I use near metal surfaces?
Standard NFC stickers will detune and fail when placed directly on metal. You must use on-metal NFC tags equipped with a ferrite-shielding layer. Eccel supports the selection and engineering of tuned passive transponders to match your specific housing tolerances, recovering signal range and preventing field failures in metallic environments.
How much memory do I need for my tag?
For simple UID identification or small configuration parameters, 144 bytes of user memory (NTAG213) is sufficient. Larger data sets or encrypted audit trails require 504 bytes (NTAG215) or 888 bytes (NTAG216). For high-security industrial applications requiring multi-file structures, we recommend DESFire EV2/3 with AES-128 encryption to secure the communication between the tag and the host system.
What determines read range in production?
Read range is a variable of antenna geometry, tuning accuracy, reader field strength, and the presence of nearby interference (metal or liquids). Physical packaging, such as PPS, epoxy, or ruggedized labels, also impacts performance. We prototype and tune antennas with strict manufacturing tolerances to minimize signal variance and improve assembly yield on your production line.
