How RFID Works in a Competitive Socialising Game
A venue game has the same core parts as any RFID system: the tagged object or credential, the reader and antenna, the controller or host, and the display or effect. Here is how a single play flows through them.

A ball, puck, prop, wristband, or card holds a unique, ideally encrypted, identifier.

A smart golf ball that scores itself
For an indoor entertainment venue, Eccel built a smart golf ball with a PCB, RGB LED, rechargeable battery, and a dynamic RFID/NFC tag, all potted inside a cast of a real golf ball. RFID readers with custom antennas sit under each hole to detect the ball, count shots, and log scores to a local server, so players can even compete remotely between sites. Wireless charging stations top up eight balls at once.
THEME PARKS, INTERACTIVE GAMING
Interactive gaming tablet with live leaderboards
A supplier of video capture systems for theme parks asked Eccel to develop an interactive gaming tablet for malls. Eccel replaced an expensive single-board computer with an embedded MCU and integrated RFID, a custom HD display, Power over Ethernet, and Wi-Fi. Players compete against each other or against scores from previous visits, with real-time instructions and instant feedback to live leaderboards. The unit was certified for FCC and CE and reached volume production in under twelve months.
COMPETITIVE SOCIALISING, GAME DISPLAY
Integrated RFID reader with OLED display and LED indicators
For the Fairgame venue’s Space Race game, Eccel developed a compact device that combines an RFID reader, an OLED display, multi-colour LED indicators, Wi-Fi, and RS485 on a single PCB. A dual-antenna system keeps reads stable near metal, and Wi-Fi allows remote firmware updates and debugging without compromising RS485 performance.
ESCAPE ROOMS, PROP TRIGGERS
Multiplexed NFC reader for prop-triggered effects
Fright Ideas, a maker of show control equipment for escape rooms and haunted attractions, integrated Eccel’s Pepper C1 MUX multiplexed NFC reader and custom antennas into their controllers. When a visitor places a tagged prop on the right surface, the reader detects it through one of several antennas and fires the matching trigger, so a door opens or the lights change. Eccel produced a custom 50×50 mm antenna with a 4 metre cable so the reader could hide far from the action.
