1. Do these readers have CE and FCC certification?
Yes, all our RFID readers and modules are tested and certified to meet CE standards. The latest readers from the Pepper C1 family have some family members with full modular FCC approval certification too.
2. How are embedded modules integrated?
Our modules can be easily integrated into your hardware via UART, USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, SPI or I2C interfaces. There are also many wireless protocols available in the Pepper C1 family like TCP Server, TCP Client, REST API, MQTT, Web Socket and BR/EDR + LE
3. What is the typical read range and what does the reading range depend on?
LF (125 kHz) readers typically have a range of several centimeters. For HF (13.56 MHz) readers, the typical reading range for the B1 series readers is a maximum of 7 cm. For C1 series readers, it's a maximum of 12 cm, and for C2 series readers, it can reach up to 20 cm. For our UHF reader, the reading range is up to 15m. The read range is influenced by the antenna size, tag type and orientation, reader power output, environmental conditions, and surrounding materials such as metal or liquid.
4. What hardware interfaces are available?
Depending on the model, readers offer interfaces such as USB, serial UART (TTL), RS232, RS485, Wiegand, Ethernet, SPI, or I²C for flexible system integration.
5. What reader should I select for my project?
Here's a quick guide to choosing the right reader family. You need to answer a few basic questions: What reading range do I need? Less than 10 cm – all will work. Above 10 cm – Pepper C1 or Pepper C2, up to 20cm – Pepper C2. Do I need wireless connectivity? Yes – Pepper C1. No – all, including Pepper C1. Do I need to detect tags some distance away the reader's mounting location? Yes – look for readers with the EA (External Antenna) suffix or 1 of our PCBA mounting modules . No – all will work. Do I need multiple active zones for reading tags? Yes – choose Pepper C1 MUX. Do I need low power consumption? Choose RFID B1 module, Pepper C1 module, or Pepper C2 module – these are SMT versions of standard readers.
6. Can multiple tags be read simultaneously?
Yes, depending on the model and tag type, our readers can perform anti-collision operations to identify multiple tags at once. How many? Up to 15 tags in case of small ICODE tags, the limiting factor is enough emitted power to power up multiple tags.
7. Do the modules support custom firmware or commands?
All modules have a fixed command set, but we provide custom firmware development upon request.
